About Louise


Louise Egan helps both foreign and native speakers of English better express themselves orally and in writing. She is based in New York City. In addition to teaching private English language and writing classes, Ms. Egan also provides editing services. Her students include executives from Societe Generale, UBS, Credit Suisse, Tiffany & Co., Philip Morris International, Goldman Sachs, A.I.G., and AXA Equitable.

A former book editor and author, Ms. Egan speaks Spanish, Portuguese, French and German. She is married with three children, who share her love of language.

She also teaches Essential English Grammar and Advanced Writing classes (for native speakers of English) and a class in phrasal verbs and idiomatic expressions (for international students) for Larchmont-Mamaroneck Continuing Education.

The Language Lady is Louise's blog on a wide variety of subjects relating to English and other languages.

Ms. Egan is the author of Thomas Edison: The Great American Inventor (Barrons) and writer/editor of I Remember When Mom … Stories about Mothers (Andrews McMeel) and the Whole Christmas Catalogue for Kids (HP). She is also the editor of the best-selling children's anthologies, The Classic Treasury of Children’s Poetry (Running Press) and the Classic Grimm’s Fairy Tales (Courage).

Ms. Egan received her B.A. from Northwestern University.
